Contemporary West Coast Artists Highlighted at the John Pence Gallery

San Francisco, CA.- On April Fool’s Day, 2011, the John Pence Gallery will present an exhibition of new works by thirteen artists who are working on the U.S. West Coast. Several were born and raised there, but most have been drawn to the lure of the West Coast from elsewhere. Above all, the West Coast boasts a brilliant array of expressive artists, some of whom are displayed in this exhibition. Diversity is a predominant theme as the artists vary widely in their approach to painting. Some are tightly observed, rich in details to be discovered, others are more brushy and exuberant. More than forty oils and pastels will be included in the exhibition. The "West Coast Artists" exhibition will be on view until April 30th 2011. The artists featured are Juliette Aristides, Noah Buchanan, Carl Dobsky, Adam Forfang, Greg Gandy, Carin Gerard, Tara Keefe, Dean Larson, Jeremy Mann, Clark Mitchell, Stock Schlueter, Randall Sexton, and Will Wilson. The superb artists, their uniquely beautiful work, and the gracious large gallery space combine to have everyone who sees the shows realize that they have just seen some of the finest realist talent anywhere in the art world, brought together under one roof.

The John Pence Gallery, now in its 33rd year in downtown San Francisco, is one of the premier academic realist galleries in the U.S. Primarily known for its strong stable of living academic realists, the gallery also presents significant works from the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
