Singapore - The Singapore Art Museum (SAM) is proud to present TransportASIAN, its first photography exhibition featuring Southeast Asian-based artists. The composite term, TransportASIAN captures travel in time and space within Asia. The works not only document the history of transportation in Asia, they are also interpretations and metaphorical explorations on the theme of travels. TransportASIAN showcases works by 15 artists from Singapore, Myanmar, Vietnam and Thailand in the way their photographic works relate to Time, Space, Action and Fiction. On exhibition through 11th of August, 2009. The exhibition is held in conjunction with the Singapore Arts Festival and the Month of Photography.
The exhibition was opened by RADM
(NS) Lui Tuck Yew, Acting Minister for Information, Communications and the Arts
on 29 May 2009, Friday, 7pm, at the Glass Hall, Singapore Art Museum. Media preview led by the Curator of the
exhibition, Ms Patricia Levasseur de la Motte, and the artists will be held on
29 May 2009, 11:00 am at the Singapore Art
Museum. TransportASIAN will introduce visitors to original approaches to photography, from documentation to the expanded field of installation and new media. The notion of Time refers particularly to the documentation form of photography and the history of transportation. Space makes reference to the technical aspect of photography from 2-dimensional mages to 3-dimensional installations. Action encourages visitors to interact with the artworks. Fiction focuses on the metaphorical explanation of transport and the discussion about reality and fiction.
