MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA - Google is celebrating the 110th birthday of Rene Magritte by incorporating some of Magritte's masterpieces with the Google logo. Ever so often, Google does a "doodle", or a "decoration" they make to their logo. Over the years doodles have become one of the most beloved parts of Google. The doodle selection process aims to celebrate interesting events and anniversaries around the world that reflect Google's personality and love of innovation.

Google doodles started out as the creation of 30-year-old Google Webmaster Dennis Hwang, but has now grown into a team of artists. Since Dennis began celebrating and marking worldwide events and holidays with his doodles in 2000, his work has been seen by millions and reached cult status, with fans waiting with bated breath to see his next creation, and even websites and blogs devoted to his work.

Google also recently released iGoogle Artist Themes where one can customize their iGoogle homepage with themes from famous artists including Jeff Koons, Dale Chihuly, and Gustavo Rosa.

In the spring of 2009 the Magritte Museum will open on the Place Royale, Brussels.

Les Musées Royaux des Beaux-Arts de Belgique, in collaboration with Groupe Suez and the Fondation Magritte, have been working to establish the world's largest museum devoted to the artist in Brussels, capital of Europe and the city in which Magritte developed his art.

The world's largest collection of over 200 works by Magritte, comprising the  Musées Royaux des Beaux-Arts collection, enriched by loans with assistance from the Fondation Magritte, will be on permanent display to the public on an  exceptional site in a building of the Musées Royaux des Beaux-Arts de Belgique. The Musée Magritte is set to be one of the most important cultural centres in the European capital.

"My painting is visible images which conceal nothing; they evoke mystery and, indeed, when one sees one of my pictures, one asks oneself this simple question 'What does that mean'? It does not mean anything, because mystery means nothing either, it is unknowable."
    René Magritte
