Hong Kong - The Edge Gallery announces an exhibition of works by the Russian post-impressionist artist Oleg Falkov, opening on Friday 18th February.  Oleg's paintings, the plants, stones, and land exfoliate into fibers and fan-shaped folds of the shells, plaits and goffered ribbon, flying away and interlacing in the definite order. And it creates the image of the constant and mysterious current, the process of the parallel life. The world of Falkov is inhabited by the strange, mournful and amusing, perhaps alien creatures.

Oleg Falkov is a painter currently living and working in New York. Born in Chernigov. Ukraine, raised in Almaty, Kazakhstan, he studied Architecture and worked as an architect in the Head Department of Architecture. Lectured at the Academy of Architecture in Almaty from 1992-1996. Since 1999 he has worked as an Architect at Diamond Baratta Design, NYC, and as a Creative Director at American Christmas Inc., Bronx, NY, Mr. Falkov has participated in art exhibitions since 1990, and after a prolonged absence returned to his love of painting in 2001, His paintings are in private collections in USA. Germany. Korea, France, Japan, Turkey, Yugoslavia as well as Russia and Kazakhstan. When one gazes at one of his pieces you cannot help but find a line or color and watch it dance across the canvas in an interesting way. Your eyes travel up and down, side to side, in circular motions as though you watching a Led Zeppelin concert (one of OIeg‘s favorite bands and music he tends to paint to).

Your heart races as you are trying to find the end of the canvas but there is no end, it just continues infinitely.  Paintings are broken into three series at this time, “The Russian Series” (artwork depicting his thoughts on his life in Kazakhstan), “The New York Series” (artwork depicting his life as a stranger in the USA and how he overcame that) and “The Chinese Series” (artwork depicting his trip to Asia and how it opened up a whole new connection to the world …… a rebirth of sorts).  All in all, artwork makes you step into your own memories and challenges you to revisit what made you who you are today.  If you have seen his works already, you might have experienced this but if you haven`t take a moment. lock in your favorite tune within your mind and prepare to travel through his world of raw and infinite emotion.

Edge Philosophy ; One could think of Art and Architecture as a kind of cultural DNA. Every time it undergoes a mutation which takes a step from its current incarnation to a new one. If the system is so static and without latitude, all one can do is to learn how to perform the hob and nothing else. However, it’s clear that if an individual in the system is allowed to have freedom to explore different possibilities, then everyone will benefit in terms of co-evolution. Edge, in some cases, can be a place of danger. However, it can be a place of potential and possibilities, especially when they are part of a mass of intricately interlocking subsystems. Edge is the “edge of chaos” with metabolic rates of all speeds adjusting and re-adjusting to keep it poised on the edge of stability and chaos in the dynamic and fast changing world.
