Linda Wrigglesworth Ltd returns to New York for a special event marking the Autumn Equinox that combines old and new. The leading specialist in antique Chinese, Tibetan & Korean costumes and textiles, is promoting her popular contemporary fashion line at the Rubin Museum if Art. The elegant garments from the Linda Wrigglesworth fashion line are inspired by the styles worn during the Qing dynasty (1644-1911). During the event, the robes of the Qing court on which they are based will be available for sale on a by appointment basis. Away from the bustle of the international show circuit, Linda Wrigglesworth and Gary Dickinson are looking forward to being able to meeting clients, old and new, and giving them the opportunity of purchasing the magnificent antique robes, badges and other textiles of the court in a conveniently located private penthouse apartment. ‘We often feel’, Linda says, ‘we don’t get the opportunity of spending enough time with individuals as we would like at shows. You need time to really appreciate the beauty and importance of these textile works of art’.
The Linda Wrigglesworth fashion range has been available through the Rubin Museum shop since the beginning of the year. For this special event, Linda is bringing a wider selection of her creations. Although based on Qing styles, the garments are made in the UK with European fabrics, lending them a unique look. Nevertheless, each garment is made to the same exacting quality standards demanded of the originals by the ladies of the imperial court. But the price tags are not imperial and are quite affordable! ‘For many years, clients have bought robes from me to wear. Today, as the antique robes become increasingly rarer and more valuable, I have had to caution people against wearing them. They really are now works of art. So I decided to create a fashion line inspired by the originals that would allow everyone to continue to enjoy the beauty and elegance of this timeless look’.
