Old National Gallery Presents Francisco Goya

BERLIN, GERMANY.- The Old National Gallery presents today Goya - Prophet of Modernism. The exhibition, "Goya – Prophet of the modern age" is the outcome of international co-operation between the National Gallery Berlin, the Museo del Prado in Madrid and the Kunsthistorisches Museum, Vienna. For Berlin and Vienna the exhibition "Goya – Prophet of the modern age" is an outstanding premiere. With more than 50 major paintings and a wide-ranging selection of Goya’s drawings this is the first major Goya exhibition in the German-speaking countries. The exhibition focuses on Goya’s importance as Spanish pioneer of the European modern age. Based on a selection of his major works, it demonstrates how far his artistic exploration foreshadowed the interests of the 19th and 20th centuries, with their preoccupation with artistic autonomy.
