Friday, 27 January 2006 10:33
Atlanta, GA- This is an annual invitational show featuring nationally acclaimed realist artists. Eric Conklin, Debra Teare, Michael Riddet and Gayle B. Tate have works in the traveling exhibit "Trompe l'Oeil: The Art of Illusion", a collection of sixty-five works by thirteen of America's leading trompe l'oeil artists. This show runs through 2007 and is being shown in eleven Museums in the U. S. Eric Conklin is presently working on fifty paintings for a one-man museum show in 2008. All of the paintings have been pre-purchased. In addition to the painting "Silver Chalice" we will be showing one of his anamorphic cylinder paintings. The seventeenth and eighteenth centuries were the golden age of anamorphosis. Examples ranged from books, paintings and prints. The viewer is deceived by an almost undistinguishable image that is drawn, painted or printed in a circular or semi-circular anamorphic image also known as a curvilinear image which is produced by curved lines. The image is then reflected in a cylindrical mirror and magically corrected to something that is recognizable to the viewer. This show should have an appeal to both new and experienced collectors.
