artwork: EDINBURGH, SCOTLAND.-The Royal Scottish Academy presents Choice: 21 Years of Collecting for Scotland. Since taking up the helm of the National Galleries of Scotland in 1984 Sir Timothy Clifford has overseen the acquisition of some of the national collection’s finest, and best-loved, works. Choice provides an opportunity to see the enormous range of acquisitions that have elevated the National Galleries onto an international stage during the last twenty years of his directorship. Highlights will include Fabula by El Greco, The Virgin Adoring the Sleeping Christ Child by Botticelli, The Three Graces by Canova, which was purchased jointly with the Victoria and Albert Museum, London, and the most recent major acquisition, Venus Anadyomene by Titian. Works from the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art’s major Surrealist and contemporary collections will be celebrated alongside nineteenth-century European works and exquisite decorative arts displays.
