artwork: NEW YORK, NY.-Steven Holl Architects, SHoP Architects and Weiss/Manfredi Architects are among the winners of the AIA New York Chapter’s 2005 Design Awards, honoring work that represents the most exciting thinking in architecture today. Forty-one awards in three categories (Architecture, Interior Architecture and Projects) were announced at a symposium moderated by Michael Sorkin, Director of the Graduate Urban Design Program at City College. Models, drawings and videos of the winning projects will be on view in the exhibition “2005 AIA New York Chapter Design Awards,” at the Center for Architecture. A three-part series of presentations by many of the award winning firms is scheduled while the exhibition is on view. These Design Award winners will discuss their selected projects at the Center for Architecture . During the selection process, jurors reviewed hundreds of submissions from local, national and international practitioners and firms whose projects range from private residences to large-scale public buildings and city-wide planning schemes. The international jury represents some of the most innovative thinking and development in contemporary design. “New Yorkers love to think and talk and argue about architecture,” says Susan Chin, FAIA, President of the AIA New York Chapter. “And, of course, New Yorkers are among the most influential people making architecture, anywhere in the world. As this year’s Design Awards demonstrate, the vitality and variety of the work being done here is extraordinary. I can’t think of a better way to cap Architecture Week than to honor these designers with a showcase at the Center for Architecture.”
