Boston, MA - The judi rotenberg gallery is pleased to present Ongoing Events, an exhibition of new paintings by Anthony Falcetta. In his first solo exhibition at the judi rotenberg gallery, Falcetta continues to explore his passion for abstraction, abandoning constructed meaning and embracing the immediacy and tactility of paint. On exhibit January 4-27, 2007."I try to look at the canvas with active eyes and a blank mind. I don't follow a plan; it's relentless revision, thoroughly subjective and guided by emotion and gut instinct. I like to be free to abstract from the world, to borrow forms, shapes, colors and ideas. Ultimately I'm always after a new thing, something that is both familiar and unfamiliar at once".
"My hope is for viewers to have a surprising, unscripted moment with a piece when they encounter it. I am creating a situation much like anything else in life: a conversation, a dance, a give and take, an introduction, or a hunch that leads one to go looking for evidence. I am interested in provoking active participation, not passive spectatorship. Ultimately, I see a painting as an ongoing event".
Falcetta graduated with a BFA from Massachusetts College of Art. In 2006, Falcetta exhibited at Barrington Center for the Arts at Gordon College. This is Falcetta’s third exhibition at the judi rotenberg gallery and his first major solo exhibition.
