Los Angeles.- Until April 27th, Bert Green Fine Art is showing "Randall Cabe: Revealed Secrets: New Paintings" at their gallery in Los Angeles. This is their second solo exhibition of the works of Randall Cabe, a Los Angeles-based painter, college art professor, scholar, and member of the exclusive Pharmaka painter’s group. Cabe has a singular focus on the female figure. Heroic in scope despite their intimate size, these paintings celebrate woman, while revealing the artist’s ultimate surrender to the power of women to render him defenseless.
This vulnerability is the flash point for Cabe’s aesthetic, like so many other painters who suffered the same unfortunate affliction: Balthus, Picasso, Ingres, and Curran. Cabe is not stylistically derivitave, however. These works are fresh and raw; honest and commanding; deft and smart. There is no pretense of veiling his subjugation — devotion is his only option.
This is Bert Green Fine Art's first exhibition to be held in their new location (a private, by appointment only space across the street from their previous gallery) at 5th and Main Streets in Downtown Los Angeles. BGFA exhibits the works of select contemporary artists. Bert Green, Gallery Director, graduated from New York University, and was the executive director of the New York based non-profit arts organization Circumference from 1982 through 1989. From 1992 to 1996, Mr. Green was a co-curator for the San Francisco based non-profit arts organization ArtReach. In the interim and throughout his career, he has organized many independent exhibitions prior to relocating to Los Angeles to open the Circle Elephant Art Gallery in 1999, and BGFA in 2004. Bert Green founded the Los Angeles Downtown Art Walk in 2004 and handed over the management of the event to others in 2009. In 2011 BGFA moved from a retail gallery location to a private, by appointment-only space in Downtown Los Angeles. Visit the gallery on-line at ... http://www.bgfa.us
