XENZ ~ The Law of Attraction ~ at Forster Gallery

LONDON - At his first gallery show ‘The Law of Attraction’, Xenz has taken the allure of utopia as the theme for his solo exhibition at Forster Gallery.  On exhibition 2 November – 22 December 2007, Installation, paintings and the launch of two prints.

Xenz, the celebrated graffiti artist, will take occupancy of the gallery space to transform its interior with wall-direct work, paintings on recovered and recycled metal surfaces, found objects as well as traditional canvas.

Xenz’s murals have earned him the reputation as one of most celebrated freestyle graffiti artists in Britain. He is known for painting dramatic skyscapes and floating cities depicting the letters of his tag Xenz, in a deconstructed architectural style. He has worked alongside the best artists in Europe often in the conception of massive murals. In his fantasy dreamscapes, Secrets and Skies, the artist invites the viewer to wander their pathways and explore the cities and castles that float in their eternal and dramatic skies.

On a more earthly level, Xenz explores the romance of nature. Tales of the forbidden fruits in the Garden of Eden, the mating ritual of the flamboyant Bird of Paradise and ephemeral butterflies inspire and feature in the richly decorative Gold Paintings. These eastern influenced works on layered golden backgrounds tell a story of romance, of vanity and desire and the relationship between destruction and creation.

In addition to the paintings, Xenz has created two beautiful multi-layered screen prints that will be launched during the exhibition, published by FORSTER.

Xenz has practiced graffiti art for 20 years, developing a unique approach to the artform. He is a celebrated freestyle artist with an extraordinary ability to work directly and from memory rather than within the constraints of any self-imposed outlines and formulas. In 1993 he formed what has become one of the UK’s longest standing and most respected graffiti crews known as the tcf crew / 20th century frescoes.  Xenz studied at Edinburgh College of Art and lives and works in London.
