White Bird Gallery

Scott Johnson’s landscape based paintings offer powerful scenes of delicate tree branches against foreboding skies that evoke the atmosphere of twilight nights, mutable weather, or the mood of misty mornings, at White Bird Gallery.

Cannon Beach, Oregon - White Bird Gallery presents its Annual Holiday Exhibition NOVEMBER 8, 2007 - JANUARY 5, 2008.

Scott Johnson, Watercolors
Scott Johnson’s landscape based paintings offer powerful scenes of delicate tree branches against foreboding skies that evoke the atmosphere of twilight nights, mutable weather, or the mood of misty mornings. Working mostly in watercolor, the soft washes of his sensual skies are influenced by Japanese tradition and technique while the refined line work in the foreground trees and grasses reference Persian miniature painting. Johnson’s rich and moody palette is built up through transparent layers of smooth brushwork that yield a surface depth difficult to achieve through traditional watercolor techniques. Johnson, who is primarily a self-taught artist, has been painting for roughly 25 years. In that time Johnson has developed confident and intricate painting methods that allow him to focus on the meditational aspects of painting, as it becomes a recording process. This methodology evokes an emotional intimacy within Johnson’s imaginative landscape scenes.

“Rebecca & Friends”
This exciting exhibition of whimsical art and functional pieces for the home brings together a grouping of artists and friends invited by gallery artist Rebecca DeVere. DeVere creates exceptional mosaic works that capture her subjects with a balance of detail and design. DeVere’s newest fine art mosaic will feature themes of Northwest flora and fauna. Liz Gamberg’s colorful pottery and woven rugs utilize motifs such as simplified birds, plants and fruit. Lisa Lamoreaux creates ethereal paintings that capture the mood of essence of natural elements like wind in paintings with highly textured surfaces, while her lamp designs are formed from found and collected papers. Andrea Savar’s jewelry also incorporates unusual findings mixed with gemstones in her unique designs that often have timeless vintage quality. Dorothy Bonneau paints chickens, bunnies and desserts in brightly colored hues with rich surfaces and Sue Zell creates unique thematic chairs which often feature motifs of famous artists and authors as the subject.
