London - To mark our second anniversary, Toni Heath Gallery proudly presents a celebration of painting by five British artists at different stages in their career. Friday 4 August to Saturday 26 August. Maggi Hambling is a household name in British art. She was the first Artist in Residence at The National Gallery and has work in major museum collections worldwide, including Australian National Gallery, Gulbenkian Foundation Lisbon, National Gallery, National Portrait Gallery, Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art, TATE, V&A and Yale Center for British Art. MAGGI HAMBLING THE WORKS and Conversations with Andrew Lambirth was published by Unicorn Press in January 2006. We are delighted to be showing two new silkscreen portraits by Maggi Hambling and we are honored that Maggi has agreed to participate in “Now We Are Two”.
Chris Gollon is an established name in British painting. In 1999, Chris was invited to show in ‘ROOT’ at the Chisenhale Gallery, with David Bowie, Gavin Turk and Yoko Ono. In 2001, the award-winning River & Rowing Museum in Henley-on-Thames (with the aid of the Victoria & Albert Museum) purchased Gollon’s hinged triptych “Big Fish Eat Little Fish”. In 2005, the Huddersfield Art Gallery purchased a major work by Chris Gollon entitled “Einstein & The Jealous Monk”, which now hangs in their permanent collection alongside works by Epstein, Sickert & Bacon. Chris’s first solo show with the Toni Heath Gallery, “Is That All There Is?”, opened in May 2006.
Linda Downie’s figurative paintings operate on different levels, often with a recurrent theme of metamorphosis. Since graduating from the Royal College of Art in 1989, Linda has exhibited extensively throughout Europe. Her paintings have been acquired for many major collections, including the National Swiss Bank, Bibliotheque National Paris, Paris Opera, The British Library and many others. Linda’s first solo show with the Toni Heath Gallery opens in October 2006.
