The Museum on the Seam in Jerusalem presents 'HeartQuake'
Wednesday, 10 December 2008 23:08
Jerusalem, Israel - The exhibition 'HeartQuake' is dedicated to exploring anxiety in its local and universal contexts. HeartQuake seeks to expose and to accentuate people’s emotional confrontation with their surroundings, and through the prism of anxiety to examine their responses as injurers and as injured - with the aim of understanding and influencing the dynamics of social and political relations. On exhibition through March of 2009 at The Museum on the Seam.
In the exhibition, anxiety becomes a complex symbol; it does not end with man’s sense of helplessness in the face of the realities of his existence; on the contrary, it holds a decisive potency both as warning signal and as existential utterance, whereby we can contemplate the meanings our life takes on. The exhibition seeks to proffer for consideration the tension between these two concepts by means of a range of creative works that examine anxieties – national, ethnic and global which undermine and challenge the personal and collective connections within which humanity functions. The curatorial work included an active and productive dialogue with philosophical texts by major thinkers and writers as: Sigmund Freud, Voltaire, Arjun Appadurai, Homi K. Bhaba, Cathy Caruth, Aviezer Ravitzky Stephen c. Feinstein and Toni Morrison.
Exhibition curator: Raphie Etgar. . .
