artwork: Cythis Cutter White GingerMelbourne, FL – The Brevard Museum of Art and Science presents In the Garden with Cynthia Cutter and Peggy Thomas. The exotic tropical plants of Florida inspire Vero Beach artists Cynthia Cutter and Peggy Thomas.  Cutter amplifies strong shapes and heightens color by popping bright floral blossoms against darker foliage in her large-scale paintings.  Thomas uses clay to create platters, vessels, and boxes which emulate plants and sea life.  Both artists are art educators in Indian River County; together their work resonates with life that celebrates Florida’s unique landscape.

“The Florida landscape provides endless inspiration for visual interpretation, however,” says Cutter, “my focus is about edges and the space in between.”

Of her work, Thomas remarks, “it is a love affair that begins with the manipulation and feel of the earth in my fingers.  Terra cotta slabs become the format for paintings inspired by the plants and birds of Florida.”

The exhibition is on view through August 13, 2006.
