San Francisco, CA - LIMN Art Gallery is pleased to present the work of San Francisco-based artist Ted Vasin. The exhibition consists of over a dozen colorful and geometrically precise paintings along with a site-specific sound installation. Vasin has exhibited at the California Palace of the Legion of Honor and the de Young Art Center. In 2006, he was awarded a Pollock-Krasner Foundation Grant. On view 7 June through 19 July, 2008. Bridging the gap between fantastical dreams and quotidian life, Ted Vasin’s work communicates an unfamiliar perspective, an enveloping multi-dimensional world containing shapes that defy simple associations. The execution is crisp and precise and makes use of a wide variety of metallic pigments and robust colors. The artist mixes these with particles that refract light, shift hues, and become iridescent, each visual aspect carefully designed to frustrate the viewer’s ability to pin the image down and name it. “Vasin’s paintings based on digital sketches are full of energy that comes from their colors and imaginative forms on an almost horizon-less canvas. The mathematical precision of the paintings intuitively relate to the accompanying sound episodes. The juxtaposition between the imagery and sound makes the work feel dream-like yet familiar.” – Laura Stewart Heon, SITE Santa Fe. Vasin’s sound compositions have an intuitive symmetry  and are complementary to the artist's shapes and colors. Ambient sounds are processed until they emerge as dream-like representations of themselves, while electronic instruments are almost hyper-real in their presence. About Limn Gallery: In 1996 Limn Company opened a 4,000 square foot exhibition space in the south of Market district of San Francisco. Specifically designed as an environment for LIMN's continuing effort to bring art and design together, LIMN Art Gallery exhibits emerging to well established artists from the Bay Area and around the world with a strong emphasis on contemporary Chinese art. The gallery presents solo and thematic exhibitions every six weeks covering most mediums such as painting, video, sculpture and photography.
