Hong Kong - Sin Sin Fine Art cordially invites you to meet Chinese artist Sun Guangyi at his third solo exhibition in Hong Kong, entitled “Memoir of Shangri-La”. New mixed media on canvas will be exhibited at Sin Sin Fine Art on Wednesday, May 23, 2007. All these years, Sun has been focusing on spiritual enlightment by practicing Buddhism. During a travel to Yunnan in 2003 he felt a sudden and deeper understanding of life, an insight that would later inspire his works that use Shangri-la as a subject matter. Several trips to Tibet followed. Sun met with Buddhists. His self awareness strengthened, “Witnessing the awakening of my soul!” In the beginning, Sun used visual elements of his surrounding world to express himself. This world now overlaps more and more with unconscious parts of an inner realm. The outcome is more direct, simple and pure. The series “Memoir of Shangri-la” are records of psychological changes in Sun’s daily life as well as continuations of a previous series called “Blessing ?Voyage to Shangri-La”.
Sun might use all kinds of materials and techniques, but all of them revolve around his Buddhist believe. His art demonstrates how living things are Buddhist in their very nature – positive blessings for humankind. On exhibit until June 12, 2007.
