artwork: Steve Weinberg MiaChicago, IL - Marx-Saunders Gallery announces a new solo exhibition for Steven Weinberg, September 8 to October 12.  Featured in this show is Weinberg's newest series of nude torsos cast in glass.  The new pieces are not only a new direction for the artist but also mark a significant technical feat.  Working with live models, Weinberg has made castings from the models' bodies and made glass castings from these forms.  The pieces are at once classical nude torsos and yet the color, and almost icy-like appearance of the glass gives the forms such a halting, very arresting-like presence.  Weinberg calls this new series his most personal yet.  The deep exploration of the human form is evident, and yet there is a formality and impersonal nuance.

Steven Weinberg was born in Brooklyn, New York, in 1954. He received his BFA from the New York State College of Ceramics at Alfred University in Alfred, New York, in 1976, and received his MFA from the Rhode Island School of Design in Providence in 1979.  His work is included various private and public collections, including the Museum of Arts & Design, New York, NY; Corning Museum of Glass, Corning, NY; Los Angeles County Museum of Art, CA; Milwaukee Art Museum, WI; Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, NY; Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, MA; Renwick Gallery, National Museum of American Art, Washington, DC; Smithsonian Institute, Washington, DC; and the Victoria and Albert Museum, London, England, among others.
