LONDON - The Directors of Marlborough Fine Art are delighted to announce their forthcoming exhibition of recent paintings and drawings by Stephen Conroy. This is the first exhibition of Conroy’s work in London since 1999. In the intervening period, the artist has exhibited worldwide, notably: New York, Monaco, Madrid, and had a Museum Retrospective at the Schleswig-Holstein LandesMuseum at Schloss Gottorf in 2003. He has also painted Jonathan Miller for the National Portrait Gallery.
In this new series of paintings, Conroy continues his pre-occupation with the human figure in isolation. However, the new work concentrates on the head and shoulders of the sitters and includes some striking Self Portraits.
The exhibition comprises 15 paintings together with 8 smaller works. A fully illustrated catalogue will be published. On view 31 October through 29 November, 2008.
Marlborough Graphics will show separately an exhibition of 20 new drawings.Founded in 1946 Marlborough Fine Art is one of the world's leading contemporary art dealers holding between six and eight exhibitions annually. Represented artists are also invited to participate in museum exhibitions worldwide. The Gallery deals in paintings and sculpture by prominent international artists. During the 60 years of its existence, Marlborough has been responsible for placing many masterpieces in important museum collections worldwide and for putting together many fine corporate and private collections.
