Stephen Brandes at Rubicon Gallery
Friday, 02 May 2008 21:00

Dublin, Ireland - Stephen Brandes continues his development of a perpetually reinvented fictional travelogue. Encompassing a lexicon of styles and materials, it is presented as pictorial fragments of ‘tales’ told by a bewildered traveller whom we suspect has only left his armchair to put on the kettle. Exhibition Dates: 9 May 08 - 7 June 08. Opening Reception Thursday 8th May, 6.00 – 8.00 pm at Rubicon Gallery, 10 St Stephen's Green, Dublin 2
These elaborate visual fictions interweave Brandes’ own personal history with irreverent invention. From small scruffy paintings to vast, highly detailed drawings on unexpected surfaces, he references various pictorial languages, from European fairytales to inter-war poster design, and American comics to medieval cartography.
