Norwich, CT - The Slater Memorial Museum of the Norwich Free Academy in Norwich, CT will present an exhibition of art quilts by Fiber Revolution June 6 - August 6 in its Converse Art Gallery. Fiber Revolution is a group of 35 artists from five states who have come together online to exhibit and market their work and to inform the public of the art quilt movement. These artists from the Northeast hail from many and varied disciplines: some from another art form such as painting or sculpture, and some from a sewing background such as fashion design or traditional quilt-making. What they all have in common is the desire to express themselves in a tactile manner. As in traditional with stitches, but often the resemblance stops there. These original works of art, made from textiles of all kinds, are meant to be hung on the wall. What kind of art would you create if you had already known a career in chemistry, marketing, computers, medicine, or poster restoration? Discover the answers at this show. Previous exhibitions have included representational artwork as accurate as photography as well as “op-art” style quilts that appeared to be three dimensional. From the artistry to craftsmanship, to a pure delight for the eyes, the exhibition promises to have something of interest to everyone.
