Pastel Painters to Exhibit at Slater Memorial Museum

Norwich, CT - Pastel painters will exhibit their finest work in the Converse Art Gallery at the Slater Memorial Museum, located on the campus of the Norwich Free Academy, Norwich, CT, in the Connecticut Pastel Society’s 13th Annual Exhibition called “Renaissance in Pastel.” The nationally juried show, which includes work from artists spanning the continental US and Canada, opened to the public on September 16, 2006 and will run through Sunday, November 19, 2006. The awards jurors are two noted pastel painters, Alan Flattmann and Jimmy Wright. Alan Flattmann is a native of New Orleans. He was the recipient of the 1996 American Artist Art Masters Award for pastel teacher . In 1991, he was awarded the Master Pastelist distinction by the Pastel Society of America and was recently inducted into the Pastel Society of America Hall of Fame. Jimmy Wright has a BFA with Honors from the Art Institute of Chicago and an MFA from Southern Illinois University. He has lived in NYC since 1974 and is well known for his radiant sunflower paintings. His work is represented by D.C. Moore Gallery (NYC) and by Corbett vs. Dempsey (Chicago).
One hundred eight paintings were juried in from a field of 320 entries. Show chairman Thomas Salter noted that this was a strong body of work. "There is more than $10,000 in cash and merchandise awaiting winners. The juried pieces of art are superb,” commented Connecticut Pastel Society (CPS) President Richard McEvoy.
