    Shelburne, VT - Early American Paintings, on exhibit at the Shelburne Museum in Shelburne, Vermont. The exhibition showcases fifteen 18th and 19th-century American portraits selected from Shelburne Museum’s permanent collection. Works by William Matthew Prior, George Henry Durrie, John Singleton Copley, and others illustrate the broad spectrum of portraiture in America, from the primitive to the highly trained.  

    Shelburne Museum is one of the nation's finest, most diverse, and unconventional museums of art, design and Americana. Over 150,000 works are exhibited in a remarkable setting of 39 exhibition buildings, 25 of which are historic and were relocated to the Museum grounds.
