Her aim, she asserts, is to create a harmony that might otherwise evade the disparate components of her work.  Booma manages masterfully to unite intuition and impulse, with a methodical and examined approach.  She strives for an equilibrium, which exudes raw energy, yet simultaneously feels harmonious.  She presents the emotional force of color, while also imparting a sort of internal order.  Booma’s paintings feel at once chaotic, and yet deeply refined.

Sharon Booma is an independent artist living in Massachusetts who works with several different media to create colorful abstract compositions on paper and board.  Many of her paintings are based on geometric shapes that intertwine and overlap one another.  Surface texture adds visual interest and dimension to the work in addition to painted collage elements, bits of handmade paper, and pencil markings.

Passages of pattern also create visual accents within her color fields.  Sharon comments on the theme running throughout her work: “With the rhythm of color and texture and repetition of forms, I seek to turn each piece into a visual symphony.”

Sharon graduated from the University of Connecticut and also studied at the College of New Rochelle in New York.   She has exhibited her work nationwide for nearly 20 years, with solo shows at LewAllen Contemporary in Santa Fe, Caldwell Snyder Gallery in San Francisco, and Anderson O’Brien Fine Art in Omaha.
