Shanghai, China - The Shanghai Fine Jewellery and Art Fair (SFJAF) will be hosted at the Shanghai Exhibition Center, in the heart of Shanghai, for 10 days from October 13-21, 2007. This is the first full-scale international fine art fair to be held in China, featuring top works from around the world and from different historical periods. This is a unique chance for the Chinese art-collecting public, art enthusiasts, as well as visitors from other countries in Asia and around the world, to purchase international museum-quality pieces at this extraordinary venue. All exhibitors’ pieces will be vetted by an independent panel to ensure that all works are of suitable quality for the SFJAF.
Due to a very precise vetting held by museum curators and world-famous experts, the level and quality of the works presented will be exceptional. During the 10 days it is possible to discover and acquire contemporary or antique works of art as well as fine jewellery. Amateurs and collectors alike will be delighted at the quality and selection. Ancient art, paintings and drawings, modern and contemporary art and fine jewellery will all be represented. This event takes place in the Shanghai Exhibition Center, one of the city’s cultural landmarks, located strategically in the heart of the luxury hotel and shopping district.
The fair is organized by two experts of the Chinese Market:
Nicolò Mori. Mori is an international businessman specializing in management and international finance. He started his career in Scandinavia and has worked with China for many years.
Maximin Berko. Berko developed skills in the international art market through the Berko Gallery and through participation in numerous fairs. He specializes in Chinese art and has lived in Shanghai since 2001, where he has tracked the local art market carefully.
Among the 58 exhibitors, we find representatives from Belgium, Canada, China, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Korea, Monaco, the Netherlands, Russia, Spain, Switzerland, United Kingdom and the United States.
THE SHANGHAI EXHIBITION CENTER
With more than 700 years of rich history, and situated just one hour from Korea, two hours from Japan, and a short trip to Beijing and Hong Kong, the city of Shanghai is one of the major financial centers in Asia. This fast-growing economy, perfect geographic location, as well as its fascinating history with the West were just some of the reasons organizers Nicolò Mori and Maximin Berko decided to choose Shanghai for the SFJAF, making Shanghai the new international art focus for the region. Mori said, “While there are other fairs that concentrate on certain fields of art, this is the first time anyone has put together a wide range of fine art, antiques and fine jewellery at this level, in this region. It is extremely exciting and the feedback has been tremendous, from galleries, dealers, as well as art watchers and buyers.”
Crossing East and West, the architecture of the Shanghai Exhibition Center (SEC) is a reflection of the history and glorious past of the city. Built by the Russians in 1955 as a sign of friendship with China, the Shanghai Exhibition Center is located in the beating heart of the city. For this event, Melka Rivé Miao, interior designer, took the challenge to bring back the former glory to this symbolic palace. The decoration will be one of the most challenging and intricate in the history of exhibitions held at the SEC.
