Royal Nebeker Girls on a Twilit StreetCannon Beach, OR - The White Bird Gallery will present a new body of mixed media paintings by Royal Nebeker.  In his upcoming exhibition, Nebeker is focusing on figurative work that draws on memories from his formative childhood experiences.  These works are more autobiographical than in Nebeker’s previous exhibitions, highlighting specific events from the artist’s past that filter into the collective experience of being raised as an American.  Nebeker’s new works include his signature elements of collage where acquired paper articles and found stamps represent pieces of his life experience and provoke the feeling of a questionable sense of age and place.  The intention of removing his pieces from the ‘here and now’ serves as an important element for Nebeker’s work giving the pieces a sense of timeless disposition.

Royal Nebeker is a long term resident of Oregon’s North Coast, and has become the gallery’s most well known artist, gaining national and international recognition with pieces in Museums in Norway and Poland.  In his expressionistic and gestural style, Nebeker’s work includes still life studies of flowers and vases, dramatic oils of staged figurative scenes. Filtering his images through dreams and memories, Nebeker’s compositions are rich with metaphorical and symbolic content.  Nebeker’s personal stream of consciousness is distilled into each piece as natural occurrence of the act of painting and is noted in the hand written text that serves as an additional textural element.  As Nebeker puts it his works are about the fragility of a moment and letting the works transcend beyond our limited “insufferable reality of here and now.”
