Richard Levy Gallery hosts Jacob Goble

Albuquerque, New Mexico  - Richard Levy Gallery is pleased to present a selection of new paintings by emerging artist Jacob Goble.  Goble creates figurative paintings with highly abstract qualities that challenge viewers’ assumptions of narrative.  Taking particularized subject matter, Goble engages in a representational play of objects, not unlike the Belgian surrealist René Magritte, made famous declaring, Ceci n’est pas une pipe.  In place of the tight realism of Magritte are smoky images that reinforce the painted surface.
 

Goble paints campfires, decoys, signs, and demolition derbies, but is just as interested in depicting objects in paint, as he is in painting the space around things: the silence, the stillness, the distance, that exists between things.  Indeed his paintings are ultimately signals for something outside them.
 
Albuquerque artist Wain Wayne will exhibit a selection of new collages in the Project Room. The stuff of everyday, as filtered through magazines, on billboards, and in the movies is recast in new terms, critical and humorous.  They reference the gamut from sports, cartoons, to current politics and say a little bit, perhaps, about all of us.  On exhibition through 22 February.  Reception Saturday, January 19, 6 – 8 PM
 
Richard Levy Gallery is participating in the Los Angeles Art Show from January 24-27, 2008.  The Fine Art Dealers Association presents the 13th annual LA Art Show at the Barker Hanger in Santa Monica, CA showcasing work from Old Masters to contemporary art including video, photography, and prints.  The gallery will be open regular hours during this time.
