Chicago, IL - Rhona Hoffman Gallery presents Gods and Goddesses: Sculpture and Paintings from India, Southeast Asia and the Himalayas.  Curated by Asian Art Consultant Cindy Elden - June 30 – August 4, 2006.

Gods and Goddesses presents a rich array of stunning iconic images.  Created to inspire spiritual adoration, the sculptures date from the 2/3rd century AD to the 19th century.  Together these works reflect a rich variety of artistic styles and cultural traditions that were transmitted throughout the region.  The artistic production and worship of images of Gods and Goddesses has permeated these cultures for centuries and continues to be a profound part of everyday life in India and the subcontinent.  Although these iconic images are intended for the context of spiritual worship, they remain as highly venerated objects of transcendent beauty.
