Peninsula Fine Arts Center Photography Exhibitions

NEWPORT NEWS, VA.- In celebration of Jamestown 2007, Peninsula Fine Arts Center is presenting two exhibitions of photographs, Eastern Light and Looking Back, illustrating the history and beauty of the Chesapeake Bay and Eastern Shore opening April 7, and continuing through June 10, 2007. According to Pfac Program Director and Curator Michael Preble, “The Eastern Shore and region surrounding the Chesapeake Bay contains a bounty of historic and natural landmarks, picturesque country roads and a myriad of waterways. It is a special place, where the quality of light lends a particular eloquence to the work of today’s photographers.”Eastern Light presents the work of 14 photographers, each of whom offers insights into the people and places, the lives and livelihoods, the beauty and nature that characterize the region.

Aubrey Bodine (Baltimore Sun photographer, 1906-1970); Steve Earley (Photographer, Virginian Pilot); Brett England (Photographer, Daily Press); Janos Enyedi (Mason Neck, VA); Bryan Hatchett (New York, NY); Shelley Inez Lependorf (Philadelphia, PA); Thomas C. Mayer, III (Onancock, VA); Stan Shire (Philadelphia, PA); Lisa Tossey (Ocean Pines, MD); Chris Tyree (Photographer, Virginian Pilot); Marion Warren (1920-2006); Katheryn Wasserman (Newport News, VA); Cloyde W. Wiley, III (Urbanna VA)In a concurrent exhibition, Looking Back, Pfac is presenting an important selection of photographs from the collection of the Eastern Shore of Virginia Historical Society, Onancock, VA., dating from 1900 through the 1970s.The exhibition co-curators are Michael Preble, Program Director/Curator, Peninsula Fine Arts Center and John Verrill, Executive Director, Eastern Shore of Virginia Historical Society.The Peninsula Fine Arts Center is located at 101 Museum Drive within Mariners' Museum Park, Newport News, Va. Center hours are 10 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday & Thursday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday, Friday & Saturday and 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday.
