Boston, MA - Patricia Jo Peacock's paintings are visceral, extraordinary explorations of the artists’ interior world. There is a romantic, haunting quality to her untamed landscapes of viscous color and inventive symbolism. Her paintings are worlds that entrap and liberate the viewer, demonstrating the elasticity of the artist's imagination. Peacock's fairytale compositions depict bird's feet, floating rings, blue horses, bleeding hearts, endless ladders, flying dresses, white forests, and little girls as landmarks in expanses of saturated color. Describing her paintings as "emotional landscapes tied to memory and imagination," Peacock navigates the fiction of memory and fact of imagination in this stunning new body of work.
There is as much to discover within the physical layering of Peacock's work, as there is in the provocative combination of imagery. Her mixed media paintings are comprised of layers of paint, medium, and found material, including old letters, drawings, maps, wallpaper, newspaper and pictures that the artist has collected over time. The final glaze encapsulates Peacock's fantasy world beneath a glassy surface. On exhibition 1- 24 February. 2007.
Patricia Jo Peacock received her BFA at Buffalo State College, and studied painting at Massachusetts College of Art.
