NoHo Gallery LA Shows 'Women In Art'

NOrth HOllywood, CA - March is Women's History Month and a special time to honor the achievements of all women across the globe. But one local gallery celebrates with ART...highlighting an impressive collection of women artists and woman-inspired art by, yes, some talented men. NoHo Gallery LA's "WOMAN!" exhibit features the Fine Line Brush, Pen & Ink Artistry of Karen b. Locke as well as the graceful bronze sculptures embellishing women by Lynn Creighton.
"Throughout history women have been the subject matter of great works of art. But now is the time to highlight that WOMEN are actually the artists,"says NoHo Gallery LA Director Daniel DeBevoise. "March is a special month for the gallery because we are able to showcase a blend of highly talented women artists who are on the move and making contributions to the world of art, today, now."
Karen b. Locke
Karen b. Locke's singular work methods and approach begins not from a specifically planned subject, but arise from an inspired concept idea. The difference between subject art and inspired art is finite and separates the genres by personal preference of both Artist and Collector. Karen's approach lies heavily within the abstract (n: an abstract genre of art; artistic content depends on internal form rather than pictorial representation) while also contrasting that format by encompassing familiar imagery on a subliminal level. The resulting experience is a visual journey into the soul of an artist, laid bare and unhindered.
The "idea" will generally manifest often weeks or days before ink or brush are put to canvas. It forms, as all true art does, form the need to visually express the human emotional state itself in all its complex and varying forms. An initial sketch is put on the selected canvas or page in a few short minutes. It serves, as a template springboard from which the finished piece will evolve, but is not the driving blueprint for the project in any steadfast sense. The piece begins, ebbing, flowing toward its own creation autonomously through the feelings of the Artist, the canvas taking on a life of its own. With each detail directing the path to the next, finally, the piece takes form through Karen's unique style and technique. Each piece is created at its own rate. Some are created over days, others months, while even others in Karen's private collection have and may take years to complete. Karen's unique signature approach to her work has been described as, "A living line."
Lynn Creighton
I am a sculptor and a woman making art from a deep personal commitment to the awakening of feminine energy to all that it is designed to be. These sculptural forms of women in the height of their energy are manifested through me as I remember my own connection to the divine feminine. During a trip to Greece, I sunk my roots deep into pre-history, the time before Zeus when the Goddess was the central deity. I learned on a cellular level in my own body what had been taken away and what must be added back if women are to play the role waiting for them in healing the planet and all its children: Feminine Energy.
These forms are about the fullness of women participating in life. My purpose is to help establish a new reality, one in which women show the way to full celebration of life; one in which women capture their own energy for their own creative acts; one in which women lead the way back from the abyss into health, harmony and happiness.
