New York City - Seascapes by Susan Sugar and abstracts by Ho-Sook Kang are featured in Lightness of Being, opening at the Nabi Gallery in Chelsea.
Susan Sugar is a New York artist who lives part of each year on Key West, Florida, where she chronicles—sometimes in oils, usually in watercolor—the interplay of water and sky along the island’s shore as it changes from dawn to dusk or calm to storm.
Her graceful renderings of clouds in formation at times recall the art of the dance, a career she practiced before turning to painting. Her work has been seen at galleries In New York, Key West, and Martha’s Vineyard and at the Corcoran Museum in Washington. This is her third show at the Nabi.
Ho-Sook Kang is a Korean artist currently living in Brooklyn. She is exhibiting a group of large abstract compositions in acrylic on canvas that, in their shimmering delicacy, evoke sensations of air and water. She has shown at the Phoenix Gallery in Chelsea and previously at art spaces in Daegu, Korea, where she was an instructor in the department of fine arts at Keimyung College.
