Brooklyn, NY - McCaig & Welles Gallery presents “FIGURATIVELY SPEAKING”, a solo exhibit by New York artist Jen Larkin. Opening reception Thursday, July 6th, This exhibit will be on display until July 30th, 2006.Jen Larkin’s layering techniques, using color and imagery, come to life in this show, and portray an urban landscape of the mind…a figure of speech conveyed through imagery.
FIGURATIVE - adj. – a deviation from the ordinary mode of expression in which words are changed from their literal signification or usage.
SPEAKING – adj. – seeming to speak, expressive or lifelike; used to assist the voice.
These are some of the elements put together to represent this recent body of work by Jen Larkin, a.k.a. PROPS. Winding roads of abstraction, and gesture drawn figures on the periphery, lead us through her path of expression. “The posed characters and dripped paint evoke the movement of an animation coming to life, but are captured in still form like a photo or freeze frame break move”.
Jen Larkin was born in Long Island and studied at The Fashion Institute of Technology, in NYC, as well as abroad in Florence, Italy. She currently resides in Manhattan, working in fashion, while simultaneously developing her fine art mediums of painting and printmaking, out of her downtown studio.
