Colmar, France & Karlsruhe, Germany - The French city of Colmar and the German city of Karlsruhe present exhibitions on Mathis Neithart Gothart (1475-80/ 1528), better known as Matthias Grünewald, through March 2. The exhibition in Colmar focuses on the masterpieces owned by its museum.
There are around fifteen preparatory drawings that explain the way that Grünewald conceived and studied his characters to place them on wood. His practice marked many of contemporary artists such as Durero, Hans Baldung, Albrecht Altdorfer, Lucas Cranach, Hans Holbein or Leonardo da Vinci.
