Boca Raton, FL - The Boca Raton Museum of Art is pleased to announce the opening of Special Exhibitions Life as a Legend: Marilyn Monroe; Graham Flint: Portrait of America, Images from the Gigapxl™ Project and Yozo Hamaguchi: Father of the Modern Mezzotint. The exhibitions will be on display through April 1, 2007. Yozo Hamaguchi will be on display through February 18, 2007. LIFE AS A LEGEND: MARILYN MONROE From fashion photography to Pop Art, Life as a Legend: Marilyn Monroe captures the spark, sex appeal, and sensation that was Marilyn Monroe (1926-1962), one of the world’s most famous and intriguing women. For decades, artists have been inspired by Marilyn to create their own works, ranging from the introspective lenses of numerous photographers to the interpretations of international avante garde artists. Life as a Legend celebrates the many sides of this 1950’s glamour goddess and immortal legend through 300 works by more than 80 artists including Eve Arnold, Richard Avedon, Bernard of Hollywood, Peter Blake, Henri Cartier-Bresson, Alfred Eisenstaedt, Antonio de Felipe, Milton H. Greene, Ernst Haas, Tom Kelley, Douglas Kirkland, Christopher Makos, Yasumasa Morimura, Mel Ramos, Mimmo Rotella, Sam Shaw, Bert Stern and Andy Warhol.
The Boca Raton Museum of Art was founded in 1950 as the Art Guild of Boca Raton, and has evolved into one of the leading cultural institutions in South Florida. Celebrating its fifth year in its 44,000 square foot home in Mizner Park, the Museum has achieved international recognition as a world-class visual arts institution, presenting dynamic traveling exhibitions from acclaimed and emerging artists, and an outstanding permanent collection.
