LONDON - This is the first major exhibition of platinum prints by Linda McCartney to be presented in the UK. With the full support of Paul McCartney and his family, this exhibition is the result of a three-year collaboration with gallerist and art historian James Hyman. On view at James Hyman Gallery through 19 July, 2008.

Paul McCartney says: “An exhibition presenting the range of Linda’s photographic work is long overdue, so I’m obviously pleased that this show is happening. James Hyman, my daughter Mary, and I have worked on it now for three years, and the result is a sensitive selection of works that really demonstrates Linda’s creative output as a photographer. The photographs not only illustrate her incredible talent as an artist, but as someone who was very much connected to the culture of the times, and wasn’t afraid to challenge herself or her subject.”

Photographed from the 1960s up until the late 1990s, these pictures present a personal record of the times and feature many rarely seen works, as well as better known images. The exhibition includes portraits of Jim Morrison, Janis Joplin, Paul McCartney, John Lennon, Simon and Garfunkel, Jimi Hendrix, Gilbert & George and Mick Jagger. It also presents landscapes, intimate interiors, self-portraits and family life.

Linda McCartney Portrait of Jimi Hendrix (Copyright Estate of Linda McCartney) To ensure that each photographic print remains true to Linda McCartney’s vision Paul Caffell (with whom she worked throughout her career) has personally printed each platinum print in the exhibition, whilst Paul and Mary McCartney oversaw the process and gave final approval.

Beautifully presented as large platinum prints, the photographs are for sale in limited editions, and authenticated with a certificate personally hand-signed by Paul McCartney. In addition, a catalogue will be available with personal contributions from Sir Paul McCartney, Sir Peter Blake, Brian Clarke, Humphrey Ocean and Paul Caffell.

28 Platinum Prints, each in an edition of just 25

The specially produced platinum prints for the exhibition Linda McCartney Photographs were printed by the same print studio that Linda herself used, using the watercolour paper that they recommended to her, and that Linda herself particularly liked. All the platinums prints that they produced for Linda were to this quality. Paul and Mary McCartney oversaw the process and gave final approval.  Each platinum photograph is printed on 300gsm Arches Aquarelle paper.
