Evansville, IN - A display featuring replicas of machines invented by the most versatile genius the world has ever known will be presented in the Koch Science Center exhibition, THE INVENTIONS OF LEONARDO DA VINCI from May 6-July 29 at the Evansville Museum.  The twelve-week exhibition explores many of the scientific and technical drawings of Leonardo da Vinci that have captivated the imaginations of young and old alike for hundreds of years.

Included in the exhibition are scale models, drawings and graphic panels that describe sixteen of da Vinci’s inventions.  Da Vinci was the original “renaissance man,” inventor, scientist and painter of the famous Mona Lisa.  Considered by many to have been centuries ahead of his time, he conceived the first airplane, helicopter, parachute, printing press, modern clock, odometer and transmission. His studies carried him far beyond the contemporaries of his time.

Da Vinci Odometer The exhibition brings the ideas and drawings of da Vinci to life through sixteen scale models based on sketches contained in thousands of pages of drawings, recorded observations and written accounts of experiments of the time. Originally developed by the IBM Corporation, this exhibit encourages visitors to explore da Vinci’s concepts through several hands-on experiences with working models.

The Inventions of Leonardo DaVinci was donated by IBM Corporation to The Exhibition Alliance, a non-profit center of expertise that assists museums.  The exhibition is circulated by the Exhibition Alliance of Hamilton, New York.
