Sedona’s Lanning Gallery Celebrates The Landscape

SEDONA, AZ - For its “1st Friday” reception on August 1st, from 5-8 pm, Lanning Gallery celebrates “The Landscape” in all its endless variety. This timeless theme has transported art lovers for eons, allowing for a home’s walls to literally offer windows into other worlds. Allowing also for a style or interpretation to redefine how a scene is seen – by both the artist’s paintbrush and the viewer’s eye.
At Lanning Gallery a variety of styles and mediums are used to present a myriad of landscape subjects. The abstract artwork of David Johns presents a unique vision of the artist’s Navajo homeland while the expressive realist paintings of Gerald Moore focus on a fragment of landscape, rendered in meticulous detail, to represent the whole.
Russian artist Slava Tch chooses to paint his scenes in the meaty medium of encaustic, which is pure pigment mixed with beeswax: an ancient method that requires great skill and control in keeping the medium at precisely the properly heated temperature while manipulating and blending the colors, creating vivid scenes of remarkable depth. The brightly colored acrylic on panel paintings of Southwestern artist Mark Gould captures the freedom and vitality of our country while artist Mark English’s work is of similar subjects – patchworks of fields and hillsides – but rendered in the softer tones of an old master, creating an entirely different body of work.
Whether it is representational art of the utmost realism or work that walks the thin line between realism and abstraction or entirely abstract interpretations that allow a viewer to bring their own unique experience to a piece, the work at Lanning Gallery will engross collectors and prospective collectors alike. Throughout the month of August, a one-time-only opportunity exists for admirers of David John’s work as the artist is named “Featured Artist,” and special pricing is offered on each of his paintings.
