Cambridge, UK - Artists will be making connections in the exhibition "Conversations" at Kettle’s Yard, 27 September - 15 November. From Cornelia Parker to Cerith Wyn Evans, contemporary artists of all stripes have selected an object or other artist’s work to show alongside their own. From Robbie Burns’ breakfast table to a musical score, the artists’ selections include highlights such as a bust by Alberto Giacometti and a painting by Edgar Degas. Many artists have chosen to show alongside the work of another artist. Richard Long and Roger Ackling are represented by a series of objects they made together using the form of a conversation – one mark in response to another. These pairings acknowledge influences and sources of inspiration, reveal formal affinities and highlight conceptual connections. Pairs include: Sculptor Rachel Whiteread and Robbie Burns’ breakfast table Conceptual artist Ceal Floyer and American minimalist Dan Flavin Painter Callum Innes and photographer Hiroshi Sugimoto Sculptor David Batchelor and Russian constructivist Nicolai Suetin "Conversations" brings together a selection of artist pairings originally devised as a series of 26 week-long exhibitions at Ingleby Gallery in Edinburgh between July 2007 and July 2008*. Seen for the first time as a group, these pairings offer insight into the practices of a diverse assembly of artists, and different ways of thinking about their work.
