Cannon Beach, Oregon - Ken Grant’s paintings capture unique moments in time whether it be the reality of changing light through a window, shadows cast from lone objects in otherwise empty rooms or surreal scenes contrived with wit and fantasy. Grant paints interiors of rooms, chairs, still-lifes, and figurative works rendered in a highly refined style that resembles photo realism.

His formulated scenes hint at surrealism with the use of light and shadow as essential and strengthening elements in his work. Grant’s pieces are created from a number of model and still life studies that are composed into a romantic narrative with a Magritte-like sense of illusion. His still life’s often contain floating elements and outside the doors and windows of his interior scenes are endless calm seas. Grant’s figurative work often contains costuming, an unusual perspective, or an unsuspected setting. With annual exhibitions at the White Bird Gallery, Ken Grant has become a favorite artist at the coast.
