NEW YORK CITY - The Keith Haring Foundation has announced several events happening around Keith Haring's 50th anniversary. "The creator of some of the most popular, enduring images of late 20th-century art, Keith Haring was also an iconic figure of the downtown New York scene in the '80s. Christina Clausen's documentary offers an affectionate, deeply personal glimpse into Haring's life, from his early years growing up in a small, conservative Pennsylvania town to his heyday as a world-renowned artist, rubbing shoulders with the likes of Madonna, Jean-Michel Basquiat, and Andy Warhol."

The Keith Haring Foundation, Deitch Projects & Goldman Properties present the recreation of KH's infamous mural at the NW corner of Houston & Bowery. The mural became an instant downtown landmark after Keith painted it in the summer of 1982. The mural was up for only a few months in the summer of 1982 before it was painted out but its image remains imprinted in the memory of many people who were part of the downtown artist community in the early 1980s.

On May 5th, Association to Benefit Children invites you to a Cinco de Mayo Fiesta in celebration of Keith Haring's 50th Birthday.

Adorned with Keith Haring’s colorful and joyous silhouettes, it is a stimulating Head Start program for the residents’ young children as well as for children from the community.

On May 18, The Keith Haring Foundation invites everyone to join them as they remember Keith Haring's imagery, his AIDS activism, and his friendship by registering for AIDS Walk New York. Between 1980 and 1985, Haring produced hundreds of public drawings throughout the New York City subway system; sometimes creating as many as forty in one day. His boundless energy and dynamic drawings brought joy into the lives of millions of New Yorkers each day.

The art world and AIDS activists will observe a bittersweet milestone this year: May 4th would have been the 50th birthday of renowned American artist Keith Haring. In 1988, Haring was diagnosed with AIDS, and in 1989 he established the Keith Haring Foundation to support not-for-profit organizations involved in education, research and care related to AIDS, as well as organizations that assist children.

On June 5, 2008, Children's Village with support from the Keith Haring Foundation, will celebrate what would have been Haring’s 50th Birthday at Keith Haring Day at The Children’s Village. This event is open to the community and there will be an art show featuring the works of Children's Village boys and local artists, art contests and games, historical tours, food, a birthday cake and the Village will rededicate The Keith Haring Medical Clinic.
