Hong Kong - Karin Weber Gallery is delighted to present Xue Mo’s latest collection of Mongolian portraits in her “Soft is the Colour” exhibition opening 5th June 2008, and will run until 19 June. Based in Beijing, Xue Mo originates from Inner Mongolia where she continues to find inspiration from the landscapes and the strength of her people.

This body of work persists in her exploration of the secrets and charm of the Mongolian person.  Xue says that although she grew up in Mongolia, she does not yet understand the “soft that lies under the strong and distinct faces”.

She questions its origin tirelessly:  is it the landscapes with their huge stretches of grasslands, mystical mountains and deep winter snows?  Or the country’s aggressive and alluring past?  Maybe the secret lies simply in the strong Mongolian tea!

“I don’t know” Xue confesses, “but I will keep exploring it in my works, and collect it in my heart as well as my body forever.”

Graduating in 1991 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts (Painting), Xue Mo lectured in Fine Art in Beijing for approximately 7 years, and then commenced practicing full time as a professional artist thereafter.
Xue Mo lives in Beijing with her husband and her cat, but visits Inner Mongolia regularly for inspiration, fresh air and the wide expanse of her homeland.

Karin Weber Gallery is dedicated to showing fine international contemporary art by both emerging and established artists.  Exhibitions throughout the year introduce works by new artists with regular representation from Burma.
