San Francisco, CA - On Thursday, October 11, John Pence Gallery, near Union Square in San Francisco, will present an exhibition of recent oil paintings by Travis Schlaht. The gallery will host a reception for the artist on October 11th from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. The exhibition will continue through November 10th, 2007. This will be Schlaht’s 3rd solo exhibition with the John Pence Gallery. He was selected as our Introductions Artist in 2003.

Travis Schlaht is a graduate of The University of the Pacific in Stockton, CA., where he also starred on the school's basketball team. After graduation, he moved to New York and became affiliated with the Water Street Atelier where he developed as a painter under the mentorship of the Atelier's founder and leader, Jacob Collins. Now Travis not only teaches at Collins’ Grand Central Academy of Art but also stands as one of the country’s preeminent, emerging, realist artists. In addition to his shows here in San Francisco he has exhibited in: Houston, TX; Sag Harbor, NY; Alexandria, VA; and New York, NY.

Travis Schlaht's exhibition will consist of recent paintings including still-lifes, landscapes, florals, interiors and figurative works, displaying his prowess in all areas of the realist genre. His palette is alluring; ranging from moody darks to sensuously saturated reds, yellows and blues. With confident, academic execution, deeply introspective moods are created that are at once personal and painterly. Schlaht's subjects have a powerfully seductive quality that draw you in and keep you there to observe and contemplate his carefully designed compositions. His richly detailed still-lifes display both his sensitivity and daring bravura as a painter. His recent paintings of the Catskills, done while teaching at the newly formed Hudson River School for Landscape, are beautiful examples of the classic landscape. Travis Schlaht's powerful paintings stand out, he is a young artist with endless potential and collector’s have taken notice.
