San Francisco, CA - The John Pence Gallery, 750 Post Street in San Francisco, near Union Square, presents  FIVE WOMEN,  an invitational exhibition of works by five of the top female artists working in American Realism today.  The exhibition will be on view until May 10th.

The John Pence Gallery is proud to present a showing of five acclaimed and accomplished women artists.  Juliette Aristides, Patricia Watwood, Dorothy Morgan, Kate Lehman, and Sarah Lamb will all have new work on display in this celebration of women in the field of contemporary American Realism.  The work on display will run the gamut in both genre and technique.  Beautiful landscapes, figurative work, still lifes and florals will be on display for the public.  Each artist applying their own style and aesthetic in their approach to Academic Realism.

This very special exhibition serves as an opportunity to herald the work of women artists and their place alongside their more numerous male counterparts, not only as equals, but as a force of their own.  The endless potential and painting mastery of these women is made evident in the power and poetry of their work.

artwork: Juliette Aristides, Pomegranate, 2007, Oil on Panel, 8 x 11 inchesSeattle based artist Juliette Aristides has built a reputation amongst both collectors and art students as an accomplished painter and instructor.  Comfortable working within a wide array of genres, this show marks a new aesthetic direction for Juliette.  With a series of ambient and atmospheric still lifes and figurative work, she finds new ways to apply her glowing, radiant palette into paintings with classical themes.

Artist Patricia Watwood is a talented, award winning artist who has studied in Seattle, France, and New York.  In addition to showing her work in galleries and museums around the nation, Patricia both teaches and lectures. Her newer work is primarily concerned with the human figure, drawing inspiration from the old masters.  She currently resides in Brooklyn, New York with her husband and two daughters.

Hailing from South Dakota, artist Dorothy Morgan has garnered awards for her impressive impasto landscape paintings.  She has been featured in multiple museum exhibitions and her work has been acquired for numerous public collections.  Her first showing at the John Pence Gallery was in 1987 where she has since held three successful solo shows.

New York painter Kate Lehman is an extraordinary artist and founding member of Grand Central Academy of Art.  She attended art school in Paris at age 15, eventually studying in New York under Jacob Collins at the  Water Street Atelier.  Her paintings are dramatic and poignant, combining a contemporary aesthetic with the classical tradition.

Sarah Lamb has become a favorite amongst collectors of still life.  Also a Water Street Atelier alumni, Sarah studied at both the L'Ecole Albert Defois in France, as well as with Marc Chatov in Atlanta, Georgia.  She is particularly well-known for her exquisite, florals.  Her gestural approach and subtle colors make her paintings both dynamic and mature.
