San Francisco, CA - On Thursday, January 31, the John Pence Gallery, 750 Post Street in San Francisco, near Union Square, will present DRAWINGS, an invitational exhibition of works by some of the top American Realists working today. A reception for the artists will be open to the public the evening of January 31, from 6:00 to 8:30 p.m. The exhibition will be on view until March 1.
The John Pence Gallery, now in its 34th year, is proud to present an extraordinary and exciting show of drawings representing a variety of distinguished artists. Acclaimed artists from coast to coast will be on display, including; Juliette Aristides, Michael Bergt, Jacob Collins, Jon DeMartin, Michael Grimaldi, Robert Liberace, Edward Minoff, and Nicholas M. Raynolds. John Pence has long been an advocate of bringing the best of academic realism from all across the nation to exhibit in California. This exhibition offers the public a rare opportunity to see high caliber drawings on view in a formal setting. Nudes, portraits, outdoor studies, urban vignettes, technical drawings, interiors and illustrative works will all take part in an all-encompassing showcase of this important and vital medium.
“Drawings are at once the heartbeat, the bones, the musculature, and the spirit of all art. Drawings constitute a unique language for each artist, and the viewer is privileged to glimpse the skeletal elements of the art process first-hand. Drawings are personal: they reveal, they are a means to an end, and they represent the embryo of genius -- the moment of an artist's truth,” says gallery owner John Pence. This is the John Pence Gallery’s first show in 2008 and is set to be an exciting and celebratory exhibition of realism in it’s most pure form.
The gallery is open Monday through Friday from 10 to 6 P.M. On Saturday, the gallery is open from 10 to 5.
