Waterhouse & Dodd presents Jeremy Duncan's Solo Exhibition

London - Waterhouse & Dodd will hold the second full solo exhibition of paintings and drawings by Jeremy Duncan. This exhibition will once again cover architectural representations of New York, but the comparison with London (made in the first solo exhibition) will be replaced by a comparison with Paris. Jeremy hopes that this juxtaposition will be a seductive blend of old and new world. As ever, his concerns are with abstract patterning created by sunlight on building facades. On exhibition 26th November – 19th December 2008.
Jeremy Duncan explains his choice of cities as such:“New York and Paris seem, on the face of it, to be opposites: industrial fire escapes in New York compared to elegant Parisian facades. However, they both offer the same contradictions – the old juxtaposed with the new; the once-cared-for covered in graffiti; the muted and subtle against the brilliant and colourful; the strong and articulated shrouded by hoardings; the crisply-hewn stone alongside the peeling paint.”
In reproduction, Jeremy’s work can appear very literal and even photographic. In the flesh however, the intricate paintwork comes alive, and one becomes aware of the subtle manipulations the artist has made, both in terms of colour and composition. Since Jeremy’s last solo exhibition, his paintings have found their way into many notable private and public collections, including the Scheringa Museum voor Realisme in The Netherlands. We are sure that Jeremy’s latest collection of paintings and drawings will further enhance his international standing. A fully illustrated colour catalogue will be produced to accompany the exhibition.
