Washington, DC - The Smithsonian American Art Museum has acquired “Running Fence, Sonoma and Marin Counties, California, 1972-76, A Documentation Exhibition,” the definitive record of the major early work by world-renowned artists Christo and Jeanne-Claude. The most lyrical and spectacular of Christo and Jeanne-Claude’s epic projects was the installation of the “Running Fence” (1972-1976), a white fabric and steel-pole fence, 24 1/2 miles long and 18 feet high, across the properties of 59 ranchers in Sonoma and Marin Counties north of San Francisco. The “Running Fence” existed for only two weeks; it survives today as a memory and through the artwork and documentation by the artists.

Monday, 25 August 2008 00:35

BEIJING - The competition came to an end Sunday at the Beijing Olympics. The Olympic flame, which had burned for 16 days was extinguished during a lavish closing ceremony at the National Stadium. With an awesome carnival-themed extravaganza, China concluded its debut as Olympic host on Sunday after 16 days of near-flawless logistics and superlative athletic achievement - coexisting awkwardly with the government's wariness of dissent and free speech.Read more: [World Watches as Beijing Olympics Closes With Carnival-themed Extravaganza]
Exhibition displays 'The Ability to Freeze Time and To See This Frozen by Others'
Monday, 25 August 2008 00:30

VITORIA-GASTEIZ, SPAIN - This show contains two exhibitions with the same time. One is linked to the other; there is a dialogue between them and, at the same time, with the spectator, immersed in a permanent reflection about himself/herself and about the times in which we are living. At first sight, it is clear that this is a photography exhibition, a discipline which is of great relevance today and which plays an essential role in almost every aspect of our lives: from biographical and autobiographical works to an in-depth knowledge of social, cultural and political events. But the aim of this exhibition is also to reflect upon concepts such as the author and his/her rights, the original, the copy and replica or the large number of considerations raised by advances in technologies.Read more: [Exhibition displays 'The Ability to Freeze Time and To See This Frozen by Others']
