Toronto, ON Two New York City POP collage/painter artists Billy Copley and Jesse McCloskey will share Headbones Gallery in the exhibition titled FRESH POP NYC with several new works by NYC sculptor Edward Giordano Jr. On exhibition September 11 until October 25, 2008.

artwork: Billy Copley - Crucifix, 2007 Acrylic paint & rice paper collage on canvas 62 x 52 inchesBilly Copley has been working with popular imagery from the west coast to New York City, where he was a friend of Andy Warhol. His snappy cartoon-ish style is a fresh take on pop. It is easy to see the west coast connections in the work by this L.A. born artist who’s exhibition history include group shows at the Guggenheim, Phyllis Kind and The Drawing Center. This is Copley’s third appearance at Headbones.

Jesse McCloskey is the young renegade. He freely emotes, applying a pop consciousness to a New England narrative. The result - fresh pop. With an MFA from parsons and a concurrent solo exhibition in New York City at the Christopher Henry Gallery starting September 5th, McCloskey is pushing and pulling his brand of freely expressive and energetic painting and collage across more than one border.

Ed Giordano, with humanitarian angst shows the plight of the common man in his most disadvantaged insecurity. With a sculptural technique that relates to the work of George Segal (he had studied with him); he presents the popular dilemma with the freshness of a well placed slap. Giordano was the guest artist at DJT Fine Art this spring, former resident of the Marie Walsh Sharpe Foundation and he is currently in residence at the Art Students League of New York in Rockland County, NY.
