    Changing Spaces: Greg Henry

It is a play with dualities that makes the art of Greg Henry so intriguing.  At one glance, his dedication to simplicity is evident in his reliance on simple shapes, dramatic silhouettes and areas of flat color.  In turn, space becomes a subtle manipulation that captures our attention and leads us across his surfaces as we discover the true power of his images.

This exhibition includes a variety of paintings and sculptures from the artist’s collection.  While bold color dominates many of the two-dimensional works, references to nature abound throughout.  A subtle play with found objects adds a touch of whimsy and humor to these strong compositions.

Henry, a resident of Hampton, received a BFA from Ohio University and an MFA from the Reinhart School of Sculpture at the Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore.  While concentrating on sculpture and painting in his own work, he teachers ceramics, sculpture and printmaking at Christopher Newport University.
